Learning through play, beyond the classroom

This summer, asmodee Access+ invited children to keep learning in a different way: through play. We created a Summer Activity Book: a set of printable activity sheets designed to make summer revisions more fun, without feeling like schoolwork.

The activity sheets explore different subjects – art, literacy, mathematics, history, and geography – through games, puzzles, and creative tasks. Each theme is linked to one or more board games from the asmodee catalogue, so that learning can extend beyond the page into shared, playful moments around the table.

The idea is simple: learning can happen anywhere, and it does not have to look like school to be meaningful. By connecting exercises to games, we hope to make revisions feel lighter, engaging, and enjoyable for children (and their families).

Learning without realizing it

Beyond the activity sheets, the games themselves help children work on key skills without them even realizing it. While playing, they practise observation, memory, reasoning, vocabulary, and strategy – all core competencies that support learning at school.

For this activity book, we carefully selected games that naturally align with each subject:

  • Art: Dixit Kids and Duplik – to explore images, imagination, and visual expression
  • Geography: Ticket to Ride – Sails & Rails (Les Aventuriers du Rail – Autour du Monde) – to discover maps, routes, and territories
  • History: Timeline and 7 Wonders Architects – to work on chronology, civilizations, and historical references
  • Literacy and imagination: StoryCubes and Splendor Kids – to build stories, enrich vocabulary, and develop narrative skills
  • Mathematics: Cortex and Splendor – to practise logic, counting, and strategic thinking

In this way, the activity sheets are not just “exercises with a game theme”: they are a bridge towards playing games that are, in themselves, rich learning experiences.

Two levels, for different ages

To match different stages of learning, the activity book is available in two levels:

  • 6–8 years
  • 8–11 years

Each level offers age-appropriate activities, with increasing complexity, while keeping the same spirit: short, playful tasks that can be done independently or together, and that naturally lead to playing a related game.
