Presentation
Dobble Giant is an oversized version of the iconic Dobble (Spot It!). Every pair of cards shares one, and only one, matching symbol. The symbols are identical in both shape and colour, although their size may differ. The objective is simple: spot the matching symbol before anyone else.

Accessibility features
- Oversized cards are easier to grip, handle and place, supporting players who may experience difficulties with fine motor skills or dexterity.
- Fewer, larger symbols reduce visual complexity and make the symbols easier to see, distinguish and identify.
- Short playing sessions and simple rules make it quick to understand and easy to get into the game, while reducing the amount of information players need to remember.
- An active way to play: Dobble Giant can also get players moving! Its 20 XXL cards can be placed on the floor to create movement-based variations, such as relay-style challenges. This offers an alternative to traditional tabletop play and can be particularly engaging for players who find it difficult or uncomfortable to remain seated for extended periods.
- No reading required: Players can enjoy the game without needing to be able to read or understand written text.
- Colourblind friendly: Game information does not rely on color alone, helping players distinguish key elements.
Skills engaged
Dobble’s gameplay relies on rapid visual search, requiring players to identify the single matching symbol shared by two cards. This engages several cognitive processes simultaneously:
- Selective attention: Players must quickly scan the cards and focus on relevant visual details to spot a shared symbol. Selective attention helps them filter out distracting information, guide their visual search and identify matching symbols.
- Alertness and inhibition control: Players must remain alert and respond quickly when they spot a matching symbol. Inhibition control helps them resist impulsive responses, avoid incorrect matches and maintain accuracy under time pressure.
- Visual recognition: Players must identify and distinguish symbols despite variations in their size, orientation or position. Visual recognition allows them to process visual features, recognize familiar shapes and identify the same symbol across different cards.

Scientific note
As part of a research project funded by the Game in Lab programme and led by Professor Philippe Robert, adapted versions of the original Dobble were developed for people living with Alzheimer’s disease. The study showed that larger cards, increased visual contrast and progressive difficulty levels increased emotional engagement and social interaction during play. The researchers concluded that adapting both the original game’s ergonomics and rules was essential to making the experience enjoyable and accessible.
This is what makes Dobble Giant a great starting point for more accessible play. Its oversized cards and larger symbols make the game easier to see, recognise and handle, while the reduced number of symbols lowers visual complexity. Combined with the alternative rules and progressive difficulty levels available in our Game Guide, Dobble Giant can be adapted to different players’ abilities while preserving the core of the Dobble experience: observing, searching and finding the matching symbol.
